Why Do Spices Clump?
Humidity Absorption – Spices naturally absorb moisture from the air. With that being said this is not likely the cause of clumping because all of our spices are sealed so there is no exposure to the air. Instead its most likely due to a lack of anti-caking agents in our Gabys Everyday Blends – Many commercial spices contain fillers like cornstarch or silicon dioxide to prevent clumping. If your spices don’t have these (like Gabys Everyday which is free from fillers), they may clump more easily.
Natural Oils Binding – Some spices, like garlic powder or onion powder, contain natural oils that can cause clumping over time.
If your spices do clump, all you have to do is break them up and you should be good to go. At the end of the day the best test to see if the spices are still good is if they have flavor. My guess is your Gabys Everyday will have plenty of flavor. If not pelase let us know and we will get a new jar sent your way ASAP.
